Is it worth saving energy if “everything is fine”?There are huge oil and gas reserves, large hydroelectric plants and many nuclear reactors. Is it really not enough? That's enough but you still need to save, because...
International Energy Saving Day was established relatively recently, on November 11, 2008. The initiator of this holiday was the environmental network “School Project on Resource and Energy Use”.
It seems that the children have come up with a holiday for themselves, for them to have fun, the adults don't care about that.In fact, the holiday was not invented by children, but by adults and responsible people who care about the fate of humanity and the planet.
Unfortunately, not all of us see the need to save energy, so it is very important that the initiator of Energy Saving Day be a school project. If children understand why it is important to save energy, they will not need to convince adults about the importance of taking care of resources in the future.
And yet - why? What does saving energy bring us?
1. Money
Everything is simple with money. We spend less energy - we pay less for it.Perhaps someone will frown in disdain: "Here, count only a few!"But this is just one of the benefits of saving energy.
2. Comfort
A significant portion of energy is spent on maintaining comfortable temperatures in homes and offices. In winter - for heating, in summer - for air conditioning.
A properly configured climate system not only uses energy efficiently but also maintains a comfortable “indoor climate.”In winter no one freezes to death, in summer no one gets tired of stuffiness.
3. Nature
The proportion of “green” renewable sources in global energy production is constantly increasing. But the amount of “clean” energy will not soon equal the amount of energy we get from burning gas, coal and petroleum products.
By burning hydrocarbons, we release into the atmosphere a large amount of substances that are harmful to all living things, from which not only we, but also our animals, rivers, forests, lakes suffer.
The less energy we use, the less dirt enters nature, the better our health, the healthier the forests and the cleaner the water. The more often our children can see a rabbit, stork or deer not through the bars of the zoo, but on a forest road, outside the window of a train or car.
4. Climate
Not a day goes by without the media reporting on a new storm, catastrophic heat wave, flood or drought.Scientists blame global warming for the phenomenon and link it to an increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the planet's atmosphere.
One of the strongest atmospheric pollutants with carbon dioxide is energy.By reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, we can prevent negative climate processes.
Let the skeptics argue that nothing has actually been proven, that perhaps increases in greenhouse gas concentrations are not a cause but a consequence of warming. Is this a reason to refuse something that could harm our planet? Is it too dangerous to wait for reliable confirmation?Who will wait for them and who will need them if the point of no return has passed?Certainly not us and not us.
5. Economics and technology
The lower the energy costs for production, the lower the prices, the higher the competitiveness of our goods, the more efficient the economy.
Efficient energy consumption stimulates scientific thinking and modern technological development.Does anyone remember when American cars stopped pumping gas on the highway? After the first energy crisis in 1973.
The latest technologies provide technological leadership, making products more competitive and enhancing the country's economic and military security.
6. Children
We all work, play, debate politics and rush up the career ladder. But we live for our children, right?
The less we use of the planet's resources, the more we leave for our children and grandchildren. Is saving energy just for the sake of it?
